What does Norman Broadbent do to practically and positively help drive Equality, Diversity & Inclusion?
As a leading brand in our industry, we have a responsibility to help you set the pace: This is why we offer clients – at every stage of a search – the opportunity to hire diverse talent. We are very comfortable to move away from tried and tested methods and bring fresh thinking and new ideas into the process.
We believe opportunities are for everyone: By giving clients a diverse candidate list to choose from, we are giving them an opportunity to break the cycle, enabling a diverse candidate to progress. We would like our clients to join us in being at the vanguard of progressive and forward-looking companies; in a climate where everyone is looking back and taking stock, it is an opportunity to promote the diversity agenda in the workplace and make a difference. It is not just the right thing to do, it is about doing the right thing.
We aspire to be at the forefront of advanced recruitment thinking: Our strong belief that a workplace should reflect society in terms of age, gender, religion, ‘race’, ‘ethnicity’, sexual orientation, disability, and socio-economic background, has given us the honour of being the only Search firm to partner with UN Women UK. We are immensely proud of this accolade: UN Women UK, the UK arm of the UN agency for gender equality, champions the vision of a more equal, inclusive world – both in the workplace, and in communities across the globe. The partnership leverages our Inclusion and Diversity solutions, which are designed to help businesses create inclusive working environments and identify, attract, and retain the best and most diverse leadership to support equality and commercial goals.
We are Founder Members in our Industry Sector in the #10000blackinterns initiative: This is an ambitious programme to help transform the prospects of young black people in the U.K. Following the successful launch of the investment management industry’s 100 Black Interns, the effort now covers a wide range of industry sectors – including Executive Search and Recruitment. Internships in the expanded programme will begin in the Summer of 2022, and we have committed to bring in a number of Black Interns into Norman Broadbent.
We don’t have a Head of Diversity – it’s too important an issue to sit with one person: Instead, we have an Inclusion & Diversity Steering Group made up of colleagues across all levels of our organisation. We conduct regular I&D engagement surveys with colleagues and act upon the results. We continually educate ourselves on new policies and movements: we are comfortable with being uncomfortable, and talking openly about our experiences and challenges.
We practice what we preach: Our gender split is 41% Female, 59% Male within Norman Broadbent, there is no gender pay gap, and our internal recruitment practices to hire for ourselves are as rigorous and inclusive as those we promote with clients.
We are a Founding Member and on-going participant in the 30% Club.
We were one of the first signatories to the Voluntary Code of Conduct for Executive Search firms.
We were commended in 2018 and in 2019 by The Hampton-Alexander and Sir John Parker Reviews via the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy for our efforts and commitment to inclusion and diversity.
