Mark Houghton

Mark is a Director at Norman Broadbent, where he leads the Retail Practice across both the UK and International markets. He partners with many of the sector’s most recognised names, working closely with boards and leadership teams to appoint executives from C-Suite through to senior functional heads.

Mark’s focus spans Commercial, Operational, and Corporate leadership roles, and he has successfully delivered searches for leading retailers across grocery, fashion, general merchandise, e-commerce, and consumer services. Known for his deep market knowledge and consultative approach, he has become a trusted advisor to clients navigating the complexities of transformation, growth, and evolving customer expectations.

Prior to joining Norman Broadbent, Mark spent 16 years as an Operating Director with a FTSE 250 global recruitment firm, where he specialised in senior finance leadership while also managing multi-discipline teams. His career has covered both permanent and interim executive appointments, partnering with clients ranging from agile high-growth retailers and SMEs to multinational consumer brands. This breadth of experience has given him a unique perspective on leadership in the retail sector, combining financial and operational acumen with a strong understanding of cultural fit and commercial impact. Mark holds both an MA and BA from Heriot-Watt University.

Outside of work, Mark enjoys time with his wife Carolyn and their two daughters, Niamh and Ellie. Together they enjoy the outdoors, running and walking, and entertaining George, the family’s much-loved dog.
